Session Preparation
Thank you again for offering to lead a session at #PLCON17. We understand that the session format for this event may be new for some of you. For this reason, we wanted to include the following information:
All Sessions
This is the Personalized Learning Conference, therefore, your session should have a strong connection to personalized learning. Consider the strands you identified with your session. Be sure to make the connection between personalized learning and your session topic explicit for attendees.
35-minute Informational Sessions
Information sessions are quick sessions that focus on one or two topics. They should be designed so that attendees can quickly learn about new research, tools, and/or ideas. Presenters should share additional resources so that attendees can further explore the topics presented in these sessions.
35-minute Roundtable Discussions
Roundtable discussions are not presentations. They are opportunities for educators to discuss topics that are important to them. Presenters should act as moderators, who help structure and guide conversations (as needed) so that all participants can gain common understandings and leave with actionable ideas.
80-minute Breakout Sessions
Breakout sessions are opportunities for attendees to dive deeply into a specific topic. We suggest that these sessions be hands-on and allow participants to explore new tools and/or ideas. If the topic doesn’t lend itself to a hands-on experience, presenters should provide detailed overviews of research and/or ideas along with steps to follow for utilizing this information in a classroom, school, and/or district.
